tainted by contamination.

The lead factory in Santo Amaro da Purificação, Bahia, which for decades was operated by COBRAC and later acquired by Plumbum – Mineração e Metalurgia S.A., was abandoned in 1993, leaving behind almost half a million tonnes of contaminated waste. During and after its activities, the factory caused serious social and environmental damage associated with various diseases, including lead poisoning.

The action will be filed in England, representing a group of residents, with the support of AVICCA, by the law firm Mishcon de Reya LLP, with the aim of seeking justice for the victims of lead poisoning throughout Santo Amaro da Purificação.

The Association of Victims of Contamination by Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Other Chemical Elements (AVICCA) was founded with the aim of bringing together and representing people affected by serious chemical contaminations, promoting the defence of their rights to health, compensation, and environmental recovery. Since its creation, AVICCA has actively engaged in legal proceedings and awareness campaigns, seeking to hold companies and institutions accountable for causing environmental and human harm, as well as providing legal and psychological support to victims.
